Africa Health Organisation (AHO)'s Public Health Directorate is to prevent disease, prolong life and promote health through the organised efforts and informed choices of African communities and organisations and individuals and the ability to respond to threats to the overall health of the community based on population health analysis. AHO’s emphasis is:
1. preventive rather than curative aspects of health Our focus of public health intervention is to prevent rather than treat a disease through surveillance of cases and the promotion of healthy behaviours. Our areas of work include: Health Protection (infection, immunisation, blood, pollution ect) Infectious Disease (measles, mumps, polio,
TB, hepatitis, ect) Health Improvement (sexual health, HIV, alcohol/drug, complimentary/traditional medicine, obesity, healthy living, health check/screening, school feeding scheme, etc Health Inequalities Patient choice Neglected Diseases especially in Africa such as Guinea Worm, Tripanosomiasis (sleeping sickness),
