Africa Health Organisation (AHO)'s Public Health Directorate is to prevent disease, prolong life and promote health through the organised efforts and informed choices of African communities and organisations and individuals and the ability to respond to threats to the overall health of the community based on population health analysis.

AHO’s emphasis is:

1. preventive rather than curative aspects of health
2. Informed African communities on public health issues

Our focus of public health intervention is to prevent rather than treat a disease through surveillance of cases and the promotion of healthy behaviours.

Our areas of work include:

Health Protection (infection, immunisation, blood, pollution ect)

Infectious Disease (measles, mumps, polio, TB, hepatitis, ect)
Influenza (common cold, flu, outbreaks, etc)

Health Improvement (sexual health, HIV, alcohol/drug, complimentary/traditional medicine, obesity, healthy living, health check/screening, school feeding scheme, etc

Neglected Diseases especially in Africa such as Guinea Worm, Tripanosomiasis (sleeping sickness),
