Africa Refugee Programme

Africa Refugee Service is our main programme for Diaspora as we face many challenges reaching out to many refugees and asylum seekers. Despite living in the world's richest countries, African refugees in the Diaspora are confronted with many challenges.
The programme provides support and help to African refugees and asylum seekers and to make information and advice available to them directly.

African Health Organisation's main programme in the Diaspora is to work with refugees and asylum seekers, especially separated children who arrive alone into the host country who often require a high degree of care and support. We are also involved in a key resettlement programme in Norwich and we provide training for refugees to help them with integration and gaining skills and employment.

We work with refugees and asylum seekers from the point of arrival, resettlement, immigration applications, visit in detention and integration or returns.

We are engaging with refugees and asylum seekers in providing:

  • health and social care
  • orientation on arrival
  • housing
  • social welfare such as benefits
  • help finding employment
  • volunteering opportunities
  • English classes
  • training in skills
  • help accessing other mainstream services.
  • community development

We are also involved in policy making, advocacy, campaign and lobbying for refugees and asylum seekers especially on access to health and social care for which many asylum seekers are denied basic primary care. Our work is with parliament and the media to influence policy and research and lobbying work. We work widely to inform the public and government about the effects of policy on refugees and asylum seekers. From our public-facing campaigns to our detailed research and policy papers, we work at all levels to ensure we help get the fairest system for refugees and asylum seekers. Our main target are African refugees and asylum seekers where ever they may be.
