Africa Disability Programme

Africa Disability Programme is central to our work of equality and diversity. The programme is managed by a group of people with disabilities who have passion about reaching out to disadvantaged disabled people who are isolated.
Africa Disability Programme is the first port of call for information, comment, opinion and opportunities for getting involved in campaigning for disability equality.

The programme strive to achieve the rights, equality and independence of African disabled people.

Review of our members' experience and needs in the UK indicated that they are often left out of decision making and their needs are not taken into account. We have a growing population in Norwich of which disabled people account for 15% of the African population change. This calls for action and working with service providers.

The programme's aims are to:

  • develop policies and support disabled people to live independently
  • advocate for the views, priorities and interests of disabled people
  • influence policy and decision makers at all levels about disabilities
  • develop and deliver services that benefit disabled people
  • Support with transport e.g. driving lessons hardship funds.

The programme provide support for disabled adults and children, offering disabled and disability advice, rights, help, support and assistance to both the disabled person, their family members and carers. It also provides social meetings to people of all disabilities and grants for driving lessons.

The Disability team at Africa Health Organisation is led by Papa Jules Mulundu Kabombo who is disabled himself. Jules brings a vast amount of experience from DRC where he supported refugee disabled people. You can contact Jules at jules@aho.org.uk
