Africa Chlamydia Screening Programme

The Chlamydia screening programme is part of our sexual health programme.
Chlamydia is at the heart of Africa Health Organisation because it affects many young people who do not know that they have it. Furthermore, Chlamydia is the most commonly diagnosed sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the UK, affecting both men and women.

Africa Chlamydia Screening Programme targets the under 25 year olds Africans. Although it is not directly connected to local and national programme, it supports the targets by providing and enabling access to services for Chlamydia screening for African young people in the UK, Africa and the Diaspora.

Important things to know about Chlamydia:

- In most cases, Chlamydia has no symptoms, people won't know unless tested.

- Chlamydia is the most commonly diagnosed STI and rates are increasing.

- Untreated Chlamydia may lead to infertility and other health complications.

- We target under 25 years old to be tested for Chlamydia annually & when they change a partner.

- Chlamydia is easily tested for and easy to treat without examination.

- Unprotected sex put people at risk of catching Chlamydia, including oral sex.

Africa Health Organisation is an access point for condom distribution (C-CARD) that also targets young people. This programme is linked to the Sexual Health Promotion Unit on Norfolk NHS. The C-CARD programme has four people who have been trained to offer support and guidance to young people before they issue condoms. The programme compliments the sexual health and Chlamydia screening programme because it offers prevention as well as contraception for unwanted pregnancies. Africa Health Organisation has prioritised sexual knowledge through training and sexual health through prevention. Click on the icon above to go to C-CARD Programme.
